Part 1. Teaching content

It is from Primary English 5B, Unit 1. This part is mainly about Cinderella. It mainly deals with the key words: ‘prince, fairy, why, because, clothes, let, put on, before, have to’ and the key patterns: ‘Why…？Because…’. According to the teaching content, I will use various teaching methods to activate students’ learning interest, helping them to experience a sense of achievement through cooperation, develop their independent learning ability and cultivate their ability to communicate in English.

Part 2.Analysis of students

Our students are in Grade 5. They are active, curious, and eager to show themselves. After learning English for 4 years, they’ve got some basic English background knowledge. So, I will attach importance to the communication with them, providing them more chances of using language.

Part 3. Learning aims

Under the guidance of New Curriculum Standard, I set the following learning aims. The first is language knowledge. Students should learn to read, recognize and use the key words and patterns. The second is language skills. Students should be able to communicate in English using the key words and patterns in designed or real-life situations. The third is emotional aim. It helps students raise awareness of good cooperation as well as proper competition and cultivate their ability to analyze and solve problems independently.

Part 4. Teaching important and difficult points

The important point is to make sure that students can use the key words and patterns correctly and skillfully and build up their confidence in English study. The difficult point is: the pronunciation of the key words.

Part 5. Teaching methods

I will mainly use ‘Task/Activity-based teaching method’, ‘Communicate language teaching method’ and ‘TPR teaching method’. Following the students-oriented principle, this lesson will help students acquire language knowledge and skills in an enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere.

Part 6. Teaching procedures and purposes

I will finish this lesson in 5 steps.

Step 1. Revision and Lead-in. It is about 5 minutes. After greeting with the students, we will review what we’ve learned in last class. The purpose is : to draw students’ attention to this class. Next, teaching activity 1: Sing a song together with the students.The purpose is : to form a better English learning surrounding for the students and arouse their learning interest.

Step 2. Presentation. It is about 10 minutes. First, I will write down the title on the blackboard and present the learning aims on the screen. The purpose is : to make students aware of the learning tasks and requirements. Teaching activity 2: Guessing game. I will present each new word with the help of PPT and teaching cards. The purpose is : to impart the knowledge of pronunciation rules. Teaching activity 3: Ask and Answer. For example: ‘T: Why are you so sad, dear? S1:Because…’Other key words and patterns will be taught in similar ways. The purpose is : to help students apply what they’ve learned to real-life situations and develop their ability to think in English.

Step 3. Practice. It is about 15minutes. Teaching activity 4: Listen and Read. Listen to the tape and read after me. Teaching activity 5: Reading competition. Groups against groups. Boys against girls. Teaching activity 6: Pair-work. Making a new dialogue using the key words and patterns. The purpose is : to help students learn through cooperation and competition.

Step 4. Consolidation. It is about 10 minutes. Teaching activity 7: group work. Competition. Story DIY : Who is the best? I will divide students into groups of 6. Before discussion, I will provide a sample for them. Then, they should discuss, take notes and report. The purpose is : to give students a free space to show themselves and cultivate their creativity and practical skills.

Step 5. Conclusion and homework. It is about 5 minutes. By the end of the class, I will guide students to conclude the key words and patterns. The homework is: review the key words and patterns and preview the key phrases. The purpose is : to consolidate what the students have learned and teach them some learning strategies.
